From about midnight until noon, roughly 60,000 people passed through the State House in Albany to view the president’s body. That afternoon, the "Lincoln Special" left for Buffalo, arriving at 7:00 a.m. the next morning. Throughout the night, throngs of citizens lined the route to pay their respects, carrying torches and burning large bonfires.
