Transcription

The Yankees say they routed and demoralized our Army. This is false. Our papers will probably say that we whipped the Yankees, this will be false too. I think the battle was as near a drawn fight as we have had since the war and if there was any advantage the Yankees had it for they captured and held a battery of ours, while we failed to hold or secure the one we took from them. The next day, both parties were so exhausted that they layed down in front of one another as quiet as lambs.
