Residents of Ulster County, New York, were provided a detailed account of Washingtons death and the many events eulogizing Americas fallen leader in this January 4, 1800, edition, one of only two copies in existence. This newspaper includes John Marshalls eulogy delivered before the House of Representatives. Marshall concluded his remarks with the now famous phrase, First in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen.
