Single Day Teacher Workshops

A cooperative endeavor between the Interpretive Programs Office and the Office of Strategic Initiatives, this workshop invites educators from across the country to learn effective strategies for using first-person accounts and eyewitness documents from the American Civil War to illuminate the sacrifices and accomplishments of those in both the North and South. Participants will leave with lesson plans, hands-on activities, and materials they can use in their schools.

*Enrollment is limited to 20 participants per workshop; attendees are responsible for providing their own lunch. Participation is FREE and attendees will receive a certificate for 7 hours of professional development from the Library of Congress.

Educators from around the country

Purpose:

To provide educators with an opportunity to engage in discovery learning and to develop strategies to teach the American Civil War using Library of Congress primary sources.

Interested in learning strategies to teach the American Civil War using Library of Congress primary sources? Register to attend one of the teacher workshops offered at the Library of Congress. Participants will leave with strategies and materials they can use in their schools and the opportunity to see "The Civil War in America" exhibition with Library’s curators. Learn how to make this era in our country’s history come alive for student using letters and diaries, photographs and prints, maps, and newspapers and other printed accounts produced during the Civil War.
